Morgrip Remote

The Remote Connector series replaces the studbolt system of activation with a hydraulic actuation piston and a collet locking mechanism. The connector also features a number of additional hydraulic and electrical systems designed to verify correct activation. This includes an external seal test.

The remote series, like all Morgrip connectors, was extensively tested by DNV:

  • Proof tested to five times design pressure
  • Tensile, torsion and bending to pipe yield
  • Underwater assembly to simulated 1000 metres water depth and pressurised to 1000 Bar
  • Gas tested to 1.25 design pressure

Hydratight world firsts

In July 1996 two 16" Remote connectors were used to connect a "Z" shaped spool on the Halten pipe, where the sea-bed climbs from 340 metres to 140 metres up a 28° slope.

This was the world's first bare pipe to bare pipe connection to be made without diver intervention.
