20,000 Hours Perfect Performance for Hydratight

SAUDI-ARAMCO's huge new natural gas liquids recovery plant at Hawiyah on the vast Ghawar oilfields of Saudi Arabia is 100 per cent joint-tight - thanks to the technical team from Hydratight.

The Hydratight team, based at SA-based company Tig-Tesco, has worked with the main Japanese contractors on several projects and was contracted to oversee bolting and jointing operations on the huge plant, which can process up to 1.6 billion cu ft of raw gas to produce 1.4 billion cu ft of consumer gas, 170,000 barrels of condensate and 1,000 tons of sulphur every day.

In over 20,000 man-hours of operations, Hydratight staff completed over 3,500 joints, including flange-facing and controlled bolting procedures, without a single joint failure.

"We would consider this excellent performance in ordinary conditions, but this contract was undertaken in baking desert conditions many miles from the nearest city, so it was a phenomenal piece of work by our team - from handling the logistics to delivering reliable results," said Hydratight's area manager KK Anilkumar.

The main contractor and ultimate client Aramco were so pleased at the success of the contract that they issued formal letters of appreciation to Hydratight's operations staff.
