Hydratight’s world expert on bolted joint competency to present at international conference

19 July 2016

Hydratight, the first company in the world qualified to deliver one of the highest standards of bolted joint training and qualification programs, will present a technical paper at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Pressure Vessels and Piping Conference 2016 in Vancouver on Tuesday, 19 July.

Jason Barnard, Global Technical Competency Leader, who is based at Hydratight’s main UK training base, will explain how the company has implemented ASME PCC-1 Appendix A guidelines and provided enhanced training to its own technicians since 2014.

Mr Barnard said:  “We are pushing for improved and expanded delivery of the Appendix A program.  The conference attracts engineering professionals from nuclear, oil and gas and power generation industries; companies from around the globe.  We are delighted to be given the opportunity to both submit a technical paper and present at this year’s PVP conference.

“My presentation will provide an overview of implementing the new guidelines, it will be based upon the technical paper, but ultimately my goal is that people can learn from our experiences, which in turn will assist companies to achieve ASME PCC-1 Appendix A qualification.  We are proud to be the first qualifying organisation but to improve standards across the industry; international delivery of the program must be increased and adopted by user organizations.”

The technical paper, titled ‘Propagating ASME PCC-1 Appendix A Compliance,’ reviews key elements of Appendix A and compares them with other international qualifications.  It suggests recommendations to increase recognition and compliance with the guidelines and identifies expected benefits.

The findings come after an extensive review of work by other organisations and published data concerning the reduction of leaks from bolted joints.
