Delivering assurances on bolted joint integrity

20 November 2017

Joint integrity will form the centre of discussions on safety and environmental factors in process systems at the Downstream Caspian and Central Asia conference next week (Tuesday, 28th November to Thursday, 30th November).

As a dedicated American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) Mechanical Joint Integrity accredited technical training company, Hydratight is part of the event’s busy speakers’ programme.

David Brown, Global Joint Integrity BD Executive, Hydratight, based in the UAE, will present on the topic ‘Improving the Integrity Assurance of Bolted Joints’ on the second day of the conference.

He said: “Bolted joints are often considered weak points in process systems, and leaking joints are certainly a Health & Safety and Environmental (HSE) issue which could ultimately become a business reputation risk as well.

“However there has been a steady development of initiatives by both specialist service providers and, increasingly of late, recognised industry bodies aimed at improving the integrity of bolted connections.”

“Much of the focus is on treating bolted joints in the same way as welded joints; increasing the competence of those involved in assembly and tightening joints; verifying correct data is used and ensuring records are properly maintained.”

In the oil and gas, processing and petrochemicals sectors, Hydratight has proven that these steps can improve safety through skills development and positively affect the time taken to test joints and return to production operations.

The paper will outline some examples of the latest thinking and steps that companies in the oil and gas and petrochemical sectors can take to embrace a joint integrity agenda.

Hydratight will be available to discuss current joint integrity practices across the industries it works and can be found at Booth #4.

The Downstream Caspian and Central Asia conference takes place at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baku, Azerbaijan, Tuesday, 28th November to Thursday, 30th November.
