The client discovered that the compressor and motor base pads were outside the allowable tolerances for both surface finish and planarity. The uneven and out-of-spec pads made precise alignment impossible, increasing the risk of vibration issues, reduced equipment life, and costly unplanned shutdowns. The plant needed a fast, highly accurate, and safe solution that would restore compliance with engineering requirements without prolonging downtime.
Hydratight deployed a specialist team equipped with a laser tracker and in-situ milling equipment to carry out a controlled and fully traceable flatness restoration program. Our approach included:
Conducting high-resolution flatness measurements using a laser tracker to quantify out-of-tolerance areas
Providing a detailed initial inspection report to give the client visibility into the required corrective work
Installing and levelling the machining system directly on the base pads to enable precision in-situ milling
Performing controlled machining passes to achieve the specified surface finish of 6.3 μm and planarity within 50 microns
Within just seven days, Hydratight restored both compressor and motor base pads to exacting tolerances. The improved surface integrity enabled accurate shaft alignment and helped the client mitigate the risk of future vibration, premature bearing wear, and potential downtime.
